Scope
What the fee covers.
Publication administration and format-specific preparation for a publication-ready project.
The standard format fee covers final file inspection, edition setup, metadata entry, upload, and publication coordination for a selected KDP edition. Each distinct edition, trim configuration, language edition, or substantially different file set may require its own format fee. Substantive editing, original cover design, illustration, extensive conversion or file reconstruction, and post-publication revisions are not included. Those services require a separate written quote and authorization.
One reasonable prepublication correction cycle for technical or transcription issues is included. Proof copies, author copies, shipping, taxes, and retailer charges are paid by the author unless Exhibit A provides otherwise. Emberline does not guarantee sales or placement. We work with selected projects only; this page is not an open manuscript submission portal.
After publication
The author keeps the larger share.
Author royalty
The Publisher shall pay the Author eighty percent (80%) of Net Receipts derived from sales and licenses of the selected editions of the Work. The Publisher shall retain twenty percent (20%) of Net Receipts as compensation for publication administration, distribution management, sales reporting, royalty accounting, and title maintenance.
Net Receipts
Net Receipts means all amounts actually received by the Publisher from retailers, distributors, and licensing partners, less printing and manufacturing costs, retailer or platform commissions, digital delivery charges, sales and use taxes collected or withheld, refunds, returns, chargebacks, and other direct third-party costs attributable to the sale or distribution of the Work. Net Receipts shall not be reduced by the Publisher’s ordinary overhead or internal operating expenses.
Working terms
The details that matter.
Royalty statements and amounts due are provided within 45 days after each calendar quarter, subject to retailer reporting and payment delays. Balances under $25 may roll forward, but all unpaid balances are paid at least annually.
The author retains copyright and grants only the selected publishing rights under the agreement. Emberline retains ownership of the ISBNs and imprint identifiers it supplies; a publisher-supplied ISBN is included with the applicable print-format setup when selected.
Additional work and post-publication revisions require a separate quote and written authorization. Selected distribution channels and ISBN choices are recorded in the project-specific Exhibit A.
The agreement has a defined three-year initial term after first publication, renewal and termination procedures, and rights-reversion provisions. The signed agreement and completed Exhibit A—not this public schedule—control each project.

The estimate excludes separately quoted services, approved third-party expenses, and applicable tax. The signed Exhibit A sets the approved project total and payment option; payment is arranged against that approved amount. No payment is collected on this page.
